Company Profile

Browning York is a purpose-led organisation, providing specialist communications support to organisations that make the world a kinder place. I also run the Time for Kindness programme. I work with charities, universities, not-for-profit organisations and responsible businesses.

My mission is to help my clients connect effectively with their audiences, inspire action and drive change. Ultimately it is about delivering their vision of a better society by developing improved communications to support their goals.

The services I offer include:

- Communication strategies and plans - I can write them for you or facilitate you to write your own

- Communications research - audits and reviews with actionable findings and recommendations.

- Mentoring - regular conversations to boost confidence

- Writing - compelling copy for a variety of uses, including blogs, case studies and reports.

- Communications training - for non-expert communicators

Our Social and Environmental Activities

Guided by my core values, I use my business to make the world a kinder place. As well as my communications consultancy work, I run the Time for Kindness programme. This is a programme aimed at highlighting the kindness that already exists in the world, in order to inspire hope and positivity (and the associated benefits to mental health and wellbeing). The programme has a number of aspects:

- Sharing stories and blogs about kindness on the website and social media

- Wellbeing workshops to highlight what kindness is, why it matters and how to see it more often in the world around you

- I have recently set up a voluntary Kindness Ambassadors programme to encourage other people to join the movement for change by pledging to notice and talk about kindness in the world around them.

- I write a monthly column about kindness in my local newspaper and I am a regular speaker about this topic on podcasts and local radio

The overall purpose of this work is to change the narrative we have about the world around us so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more we see kind, the more we want to be kind.

I regularly share my skills through volunteering opportunities, such as providing pro bono comms mentoring and training to local charities and previously through the Small Charities Coalition. I have held trustee positions at 2 local charities and although I am currently taking a break from such roles, I plan to take it up again in the future.

I believe that my business practices should be environmentally and socially responsible. I am committed to minimising my company's impact on the environment and promoting environmental and social sustainability through continuous improvement. This year I have introduced a policy which sets out that commitment and is openly available on my website. I know that I am not perfect and that I am on a journey to get things right.

Environmental impact

I believe that by working together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and create a more sustainable future. I am currently reviewing my supply chain and their practices, recognising that they too will be on a journey. Many of my suppliers are SMEs and/or locally based.

I am a non-driver from a car-free household and when I travel (for work or personal reasons) I walk, cycle or use public transport, except in circumstances where carpooling with colleagues, family or friends is an appropriate option. I also use online meetings instead of travelling to in-person meetings where appropriate.

I have signed up for a pilot scheme to assess my home (which is also where my office is based) for appropriate energy-saving and efficiency modifications.

Social impact

I choose to work with clients that have a vision of a kind world. They all play a vital role in supporting and championing causes and communities of all shapes and sizes. They connect people and knowledge. They find solutions to complex problems.
