Company Profile

Cancer Care Parcel is an independent company that supports the cancer community.

After Dr Shara Cohen (our founder) was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 she found there was very little time to just relax, take it all in and give herself ‘me’ time.

With all the appointments, liaising with work, telling the people who needed to be told… there was little time to digest what was happening, research the practicalities or just relax. There were also a few friends who found the whole situation very awkward, they avoided her as they did not know how to react or what to say. So she set up The Cancer Care Parcel, to enable children and adults with cancer to take some of the worries away and bring some calm back into their lives.

"I set up Cancer Care Parcel to bring back a bit of calm into the lives of people suffering with cancer and its treatment"

In 2024 Shara was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to Women in Stem and to Cancer Patients and their families.

Our Social and Environmental Activities

Cancer Care Parcel spends a lot of time writing and sourcing articles to benefit the cancer community.

Our primary aim is to provide some insight into what people are going through when they have cancer, with advice on:

• what to say and do

• what not to say or do

• which products may or may not be suitable as gifts

We also include news items and updates on research plus personal stories

Cancer Charity Fundraising

When charities partner with us, we helpfundraising by donating some profit from each sale of specific gift boxes.

Cancer Gift Box Donations

Where it helps a charity we can donate some of our gift boxes. We also donate care packages to cancer patients directly when we have enough surplus funds or enough donations.

We are fully committed to minimising the company’s environmental impact and proactively implement new sustainability practices. Here is what we have done to date regarding our Packaging and Fulfilment processes.

All our packaging is Eco Friendly and Recyclable. Our new Care Package Boxes (which are being phased in) have the FSC Mix certificate which means the forest-based material is from a mix of FSC certified forests, recycled materials and controlled wood.

Currently, we can’t eliminate all plastic from our packaging, but we’re working with our partners on more sustainable versions of packaging that wouldn’t sacrifice any of its protective properties.

Where Plastics are used we try to use post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics. PCR plastics are made from items people recycle every day, like plastic bags and bottles. Most of our PCR plastics are made from shopping bags and wrapping films.

Our inspirational printed products such as mugs and stationary are printed on demand. This lets us avoid overproduction that is widespread in the rest of the industry.

We use a fulfilment centre for our Care Packages that aligns with our commitment to reduce our environmental impact.

For our printed apparel we use a company that only does direct-to-garment (DTG) printing which is more sustainable than other more outdated apparel printing methods, such as screen printing. Not only does screen printing use a lot of water and plastisol inks that don’t biodegrade, but it’s also generally used for bulk orders, which leads to overproduction. In comparison, DTG printing is more eco-friendly because items get printed only when they’re ordered, and this method can be used for single-item printing.

With our printed products we outsource delivery to ensure that orders are delivered within the same region they’re fulfilled in. Having fulfillment centers close to our customers is good for both the business and the planet. Strategically located fulfillment centers allow for faster shipping times and lower shipping costs, and it also helps with reducing CO₂ emissions produced when transporting orders.

Products available in the same region are shipped together whenever possible. This helps our customers save money and is much better for the environment.
