CHCBS will provide public benefit to Cherry Hinton residents, who, together with the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations will be able to create and enjoy a new community hub providing social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of people who live locally. CHCBS will manage and maintain the new facility in accordance with the Society's rules and democratic purposes.
The community benefit society has been established with the aim of managing the community hub and will take a long lease from Cambridge City Council, who own the premises, and have provided most of the funding for the extension to the existing building. Building work commences early in 2023. Meanwhile, CHCBS will sub-let space to Cambridgeshire County Council, who will then continue to run the local library from part of the facility. In addition to the library, the facility will offer meeting rooms, a 1:1 room, a cafe, and a garden area.
CHCBS management will undertake its business activities in an environmentally and socially responsible manner with due regard to all our users, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders. WE will set up policies and practices in this light, and regularly report to both the CHCBS Board and our wider membership on how the Society is meeting its goals and objectives.
