Company Profile

I am Emily Marketing is a multi award-winning agency helping small businesses, charities and purpose-led brands grow through strategy, design and marketing that actually works.

Founded by Emily Hewett in 2009, the business combines big-agency thinking with a boutique, straight-talking approach. From branding, PR and content to web, digital and print, every project is rooted in real results and personal connection.

With a trusted network of UK-based freelancers and specialists, IAE delivers agency-level support without the overheads – tailored, practical and people-first.

Based in Essex and working nationwide, we believe great marketing starts with understanding, integrity and impact.

Our Social and Environmental Activities

I started I am Emily Marketing in 2009, not just to build a business – but to rebuild my life after some life-changing events and a move from the North to the South. I set out to create something purposeful, ethical and rooted in community.

From day one, I’ve worked with a clear intention: to offer big-agency design and marketing support to the people and organisations that need it most, without the inflated costs or confusing jargon. Over the years in my business, I’ve partnered with dozens of charities, community groups and purpose-led brands across Essex and the UK, helping them raise awareness, connect with their audience and grow sustainably.

As a former Senior Art Director at an award-winning direct response agency, I’ve taken that experience and translated it into practical, creative support for smaller clients – often charities with limited budgets and small teams who simply want to be seen and heard. My approach has helped many of them gain traction in their communities and secure crucial funding they might not otherwise have accessed.

Being a responsible business runs through everything I do – from the projects I take on to the partners I choose and the values I promote. I proudly support UK-based freelancers (most local, many from underrepresented backgrounds), and have built a diverse team that includes neurodiverse, LGBTQ+, disabled, and ADHD creatives. I tailor roles, responsibilities and communication styles to suit each individual, because I believe people do their best work when they’re supported as humans first.

I’m Mental Health Aware (CPD-accredited) and committed to creating a working environment where people feel safe, empowered and heard – whether they’re clients, team members or collaborators.

When it comes to sustainability, I actively seek out and recommend ethical suppliers. My print partners are FSC-registered and use plant-based inks, and my packaging and merchandise partners work exclusively with recycled and recyclable materials.

I bring sustainability into every branding or marketing brief – encouraging clients to reduce waste, use eco-conscious materials and communicate their values clearly. This has led to some incredible shifts – from a sales and lettings agent donating to a local homelessness charity, to a luxury food brand switching entirely to sustainable packaging, to salons embracing vegan, cruelty-free products and low-carbon operations.

In 2024, to celebrate 15 years in business, I ran a competition offering over £10,000 worth of marketing support to a local charity – a way to give back to the community that helped me grow. It was one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever worked on.

I’m also proud to hold Sustainability for Small Business accreditation, I’m committed to the SME Climate Hub, and I’m part of the Noissue Eco-Alliance.

These aren’t badges for show – they’re reminders that every small step adds up. Whether that’s choosing a local printer, cutting out unnecessary packaging, or walking to a meeting instead of driving – it all matters.

At home and in business, I use natural, sustainable products, support local producers, and live in a way that reflects my values (as much as possible, between juggling five kids and a dog). I’m the first to say I’m not perfect – but I believe if we all make better choices where we can, we move things forward together.

IAE Marketing is built on integrity, creativity and connection. I believe in doing the right thing, not just the profitable thing. I believe marketing should reflect your values, not hide behind a polished façade. And I believe small businesses can make a big impact – with the right support, the right message, and a little bit of heart.
