Company Profile

Jackdaw Web Design has been building accessible, ethical websites since 2015. Based in the North East, I specialise in supporting charities, community groups, and socially responsible small businesses.

My focus is on clarity, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability. I ensure that websites not only look professional but also work for everyone.

Alongside bespoke builds, I provide managed hosting and support services, offering peace of mind to organisations that need a trusted partner to keep their online presence running smoothly.

I also deliver tailored WordPress and accessibility training, empowering teams to take ownership of their sites with confidence.

Known locally for expertise in accessibility and reliability, Jackdaw Web Design helps values-led organisations thrive online.

Our Social and Environmental Activities

At Jackdaw Web Design, responsibility and sustainability are central to how I work. I believe that small businesses can make a meaningful difference by embedding ethical practices into everyday decisions.

Social responsibility

- Accessibility at the core: every website I build or support is designed to meet recognised accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA as a minimum). This ensures that people with disabilities are not excluded from information, services, or opportunities online.

- Affordable solutions for the third sector: I know many charities and community groups operate on tight budgets. My pre-built accessible starter websites and flexible support plans are designed to give them professional, inclusive websites without hidden costs.

- Capacity building: through bespoke WordPress training, I enable staff and volunteers to manage their own websites, reducing reliance on outside support and giving them confidence to use digital tools effectively.

- Community focus: most of my clients are charities, social enterprises, and other organisations with a social mission. By supporting their digital presence, I indirectly contribute to a wide range of causes, from health and wellbeing to education, environment, and community cohesion.

Environmental responsibility

- Low-impact hosting: I work with Guru, “the UK’s original and best green hosting provider”, who use energy-efficient servers and have a data centre powered by renewable energy.

- Efficient design: my websites are streamlined to avoid unnecessary bloat, which reduces data transfer and energy use. This makes sites faster, more sustainable, and more user-friendly.

- Local first: I prioritise working with local suppliers and collaborators wherever possible, reducing travel and strengthening our regional economy.

- Remote working practices: my business is run from a home office, minimising commuting and overheads. Client meetings are usually held online, further cutting travel emissions.

Personal sustainability values

My ethos extends beyond business operations. I actively support biodiversity by maintaining a pollinator-friendly allotment, practise low-waste living where possible, and continually review my own consumption habits. These personal commitments shape the way I run Jackdaw Web Design and the advice I share with clients.

I know I am just a small business, but small steps add up. By aligning my professional services with my values, I aim to show that being responsible, accessible, and sustainable is not an optional extra - it’s the foundation of good business.
