Soul Somatic Therapy

Company Profile

Soul Somatic Therapy offers trauma-resolution therapy rooted in Somatic Experiencing®, a body-based approach developed by Dr Peter Levine that helps people heal from complex trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation.

Founded by Verinder Sharma, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), with a background in financial regulation and ESG, Soul Somatic Therapy operates with a deep commitment to equity and access.

Verinder works with a wide range of clients: executives, NHS workers, psychotherapists, CEOs, startup founders, and people navigating homelessness, addiction, and displacement. Clients consistently describe lasting change where talking therapies had not reached.

Group somatic workshops and community retreats extend this work further. Low-cost therapy is offered through a therapist co-operative, and community workshops extend access further.

All sessions are online.

Trusted by mental health professionals, justice reformers, and everyday people alike.

Our Social and Environmental Activities

Soul Somatic Therapy was not built around a business model. It was built around a belief: that healing from trauma is possible, it can be a part of a catalyst for a compassionate world, and that how a business operates matters just as much as what it offers.

People:

I began working at the age of nine, and endured adverse traumatic incidents. I know what it means to carry stress in the body long before you have words for it, and I know what it means to go without. That lived experience of poverty, trauma, and child labour is not incidental to this work, it is foundational to it. It is why I take a sliding scale and low-cost approach through a therapist co-operative, ensuring that people facing financial hardship, homelessness, addiction, or displacement can access somatic therapy when they need it most.

My clients span an extraordinary range: CEOs and startup founders navigating burnout, NHS workers carrying the weight of caring professions, psychotherapists seeking their own healing, and people in acute crisis who have found little relief elsewhere. One client described moving back from the edge of suicide ideation. Another, a House of Lords mental health speaker, praised the compassion and skill with which sessions were held. I hold all of these people with equal care.

Responsible practice means working with integrity at every step. I am a member of the Somatic Experiencing Association UK (SEAUK), where I also serve as a Voluntary Director, contributing to the ethical governance of the profession, and I hold professional memberships in the therapy field, and help membership with The Conduit, a purpose drive community committed to creating a sustainable and just future.

Sessions are conducted online, removing geographical barriers and making support accessible to people with busy schedules, international lives, or mobility challenges.

Community is central to how I operate. I volunteer with grassroots organisations supporting people affected by homelessness, addiction, and other social ills, facilitate group somatic workshops for mixed community groups and wellbeing practitioners, and have assisted in delivering trauma training for frontline care workers.

Planet:

My commitment to the planet is not recent, and it has never been comfortable or convenient.

For years I have volunteered alongside community and activist organisations, including recently with Dr Vandana Shiva, the internationally renowned environmental activist and defender of biodiversity and indigenous seed sovereignty. I have stood as a protester for environmental justice, indigenous rights, and broader justice movements, not as a spectator, but as someone who believes these causes demand personal action.

That commitment followed me into the heart of the financial system. During my years as a regulator, I did not leave these values at the door. I raised concerns about child labour, illegal gold mining in the Amazon, and the violation of indigenous rights directly to senior colleagues and leadership, issues that most in my position ignored, feared speaking up, and considered outside the scope of financial regulation.

In one significant instance, my actions led to the withdrawal of a senior executive's application for an Independent Non-Executive Director role at a major exchange, due to human rights concerns I had escalated. These were not easy stands to take. I took them anyway.

Before founding Soul Somatic Therapy, I also worked on ESG strategy at the FCA, proposing the organisation's ESG framework with a focus on UK agricultural sustainability and net-zero transition, and leading supervisory reviews that integrated environmental considerations into wholesale markets regulation.

I contributed to an AI tech sprint on greenwashing and supported the development of fund labelling and sustainability metrics.

That understanding of planetary responsibility carries directly into how I run this business. All sessions are delivered online, meaning no travel, no physical premises, and a minimal environmental footprint.

My time living for five months with an indigenous Amazonian community, studying regeneration projects, conflict history, and environmental NGOs, deepened my conviction that sustainable living is not an abstract policy goal but a relational, spiritual, and embodied practice. That perspective informs both my therapeutic work and my business ethics.

I am drawn to the ORB community precisely because its values mirror my own: that doing business well and doing right by the planet are not in tension, they are inseparable.

Profit:

Soul Somatic Therapy operates as a small, values-led sole practice. Profit is not the purpose, but sustainability is. A business that cannot sustain itself cannot serve its community, and I am clear-eyed about that. Pricing is set to reflect the genuine value of specialist trauma therapy while remaining as accessible as possible. Low-cost places are maintained deliberately, not as an afterthought.

I do not advertise in ways that exploit vulnerability. I do not overstate outcomes. I offer a free initial consultation so that prospective clients can make an informed choice without financial pressure.

The business grows through trust, word of mouth, and the quality of the work, which is exactly how it should be.

Responsible profit means earning honestly, spending thoughtfully, and reinvesting in the community you serve. That is the standard I hold myself to, and the standard I believe every small business is capable of rising to.
